This is a AR rhythm game made for the Microsoft Hololens during the KSU fall 2016 game jam, using Unity. The video below is the very first update of the game and since then I have up updated the game to run smoother and be more responsive to hand gestures.
This game jam was difficult for me for many reasons. First off this was only a team of two. I did all of the programming for the game and my partner, Mia, made the art. The Hololens is not a power computer, since all its parts are stored in the headset. While programming, I could make a new feature for the game and view it working in the editor fine. However when I would load the game into the device some features would not load properly for various reasons. This lead me down a road of optimizing the game at every angle possible. The application i was making at the time was not too feature intensive, but the hardware pushed me to learn what to optimize in order to get the game as envisioned. In the end the game worked fine after all my performance changes and won the KSU 2016 game jam. This project was taken so some conferences to show the potential of gaming on the Hololens using Unity.
